Our Journey
Running is a tool that exercises the body and the mind equally. Any athlete will tell you that running is as much of a mental workout as it is a physical one. The body is capable of amazing things, but it is the mind’s decision as to whether or not this potential will be reached.
The C-19 pandemic created a running community that was platformed in the digital world. Bringing new and seasoned runners together through social media and community-driven workout equipment.
Ideation that comes from passion
One of the many included Lacetrap founder Mike Fischer, a long-time outdoor & active industry product designer. Through COVID, work was consistent but with travel taking a halt, running became more of an outlet to mentally escape. First, it was the treadmill following the virtual trainers running all over the world, and then it was the roads and trails of Colorado. However, much of the beginning was spent alone. As COVID restrictions became eased he found himself in running groups, connecting with the local running community, and as a designer, becoming keen on brands and types of equipment that help maximize performance.
Functional Design = Problem Solving
Design is predicated on a small number of factors, one of them being identifying a pain point or problem. Mike quickly noticed a problem early in his journey with running, and it’s somewhat of an overlooked one: shoelaces coming untied mid-run. We’ve all had it, and we all hate it. It’s annoying, inconvenient, and seemingly trivial in the mind of an adult.
Mike started sketching and coming up with ideas to solve this problem. There were some shoddy contraptions online that didn’t work, but all that presented was an opportunity to make something better. After numerous discussions with fellow runners, a demand was established and a product was being developed.
The Lacetrap was Born
The Lacetrap was developed on a problem and predicated on a solution. It isn’t as much of a product as it is a tool to maximize your performance, eliminate distractions, and hone the ability to remain present in running and beyond.
